New nurses just starting out in their career can often feel intimidated and nervous. Even though they have gone through all of the necessary training and have earned their certifications and nursing license, they likely still feel that they need to prove themselves in the workplace.
Veteran nurses can help by making their new coworkers feel comfortable, yet confident. Give them advice, but let them find their own way in new situations.
Be willing to listen to when they need to ask questions, and don’t make them feel bad if they need a refresher on the basics. Remember that at one time, you too were a new nurse in the field.
You can help the nurses of the future to be their best by being a positive role model.
