Receiving medical care is generally not something that people enjoy. As a nurse, you’ll come across your fair share of scared, worried, and anxious patients.

Help to put them at ease by being a good communicator. Talk to a nervous patient while you’re treating them, and explain what you’re doing. Sometimes knowing what they’re experiencing can help to ease their nerves. Address them by their name, and let them know that you view them as an individual, not just another person to attend to.

A little kindness, comfort, and genuine care can go a long way to putting an anxious patient more at ease.
