There’s a lot of advice out there for job seekers, and unfortunately, not all of it is helpful. One piece of bad advice is to apply for any and all positions that you think you might qualify for. Take the time to review job listings and make sure that the position you’re applying for is one that you would actually want. By vetting every opening before you apply, you’ll be sure that when you’re contacting for an interview it’s for a position you would be excited to take on. Another piece of advice to ignore is to just sit back and wait to hear from potential employers. If you’ve applied and had an initial interview, make sure you reach out and thank them. Taking the initiative shows you’re motivated and interested in the job.
