The first year of a nursing career can be the toughest. You leave the role of being a student and entering the real world of nursing as a professional.

There’s the stress of finding a good nursing job, putting your training into practice, and hoping that you won’t feel too overwhelmed with your career choice. In order to succeed in the first year, you need the right perspective. Give yourself time to adjust, and keep an open mind as you continue to learn on the job. Respect the older nurses that you work with, and value their insight and guidance. Look for a nursing mentor who you can rely on.

Remember that just because you did well in school, it doesn’t mean that you know it all now. Over time, you’ll feel more comfortable and confident in your career.
