Home care nurses provide nursing services to those who are homebound and physically unable to visit a physician’s office or other treatment facility. The duties of home health nurses range from taking vital signs (blood pressure, pulse and temperature) to assessing health progress and needs.
Some home care nurses work with pregnant women and new mothers to provide ongoing care, education and support. Home care nursing may involve assisting patients with basic needs such as bathing and dressing, as well as more specialized services such as wound care, medication management and intravenous therapy.
Graduating from a registered nursing program is the first step in becoming a home health nurse. After passing the exam and becoming licensed in the state you want to work in, it is time to gain some experience. After getting a few years of experience, you are prepared for the role of a home care nurse.
