Building trust with patients is an important part of being an effective caregiver. When trust is established, it can make it much easier for both patients and nurses to feel comfortable.
Ask your patients questions about their life, not just about how their feeling or what issues they’re having related to their medical care.
Get to know a bit about them by starting a dialogue. They’ll appreciate your interest, and you can share things about yourself to show them how you relate to them.
Show empathy by acknowledging their concerns and explaining what you’re doing. When patients feel like they understand what’s happening to them, in terms of their medical care, they’ll likely feel much more comfortable.
Having the right skills and proper education are essential, but so is being a kind, understanding caregiver.
