Nurses have to be mentally tough, especially when working in emergency care, long term care, and hospice facilities, to name just a few. Helping patients and their families cope with difficult medical issues on a daily basis can take a toll on even the most experienced nurses in the field.
It’s important to recognize that even as a strong nurse, you aren’t made of steel. It’s okay to be emotionally affected by your patients and their circumstances.
However, work should not dominate your happiness. Pay close attention to your own emotional and mental well-being. Practicing self-care and making enough time for your friends and family is critical to maintaining your emotional health.
